Applying for a grant

The grants awarded by the Savings Banks Research Foundation amount to approximately EUR 5,000 on average. The application period is in October.

The Foundation awards grants for actual research, primarily for doctoral dissertations and post-doctoral research. The aim is to award grants for completing research that has already received support. 

Application period in October

The grants awarded by the Savings Banks Research Foundation amount to approximately EUR 5,000 on average. For research teams, the grants range from EUR 5,000 to EUR 10,000.

The grants are awarded annually. Applications are accepted during the month of October. The Board of the Foundation reviews the proposals and decides on the grants by the end of November.

Information on the awarded grants is communicated

  • to the recipients personally
  • through a press release
  • on the saastopankki.fi website.
We request that a copy of the completed dissertation or other research project be sent to the Savings Banks Research Foundation.

The grants are not awarded for

  • trips to conferences and seminars
  • completing basic degrees in Finland or abroad
  • printing research
  • equipment purchases
  • hiring support staff.

Appendices to the application

Applications must be submitted with a research plan that includes
  • the estimated time of completion
  • a statement from the supervising professor.

The statement is not required for post-doctoral research or corresponding research by a research team.

The recommended length of the research plan is no more than four sheets.

We also recommend that applicants provide information on their personal profile and achievements in the form of a CV.
